Thanks to intelligent conservation policies, the waterbucks in the Gorongosa have recovered in an impressive way. From a few hundreds of specimen in 2002, they are now over 57,000. It cannot yet compare to the shear number of wildebeests in the greater Serengeti but I was still humbled by the sightings of this beautiful antelope anywhere I looked.
