Rio de Janeiro Brazil

On occasions, work takes me to new places. Rarely do I have the time to absorb the atmosphere, understand the culture, and get in the flow of taking these great photographs that will enrish my memories of the place. The city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil was no exception, The canvas was infinite and I trully enjoyed the vibe of this city. I managed to record a few images along the way.

It did not take long to understand how the ocean plays a vital role in the city’s culture. People gather there before and after work, and all day really. At praia Vermelha, down from the Pao do Azucar, locals and tourists enjoy their afternoon at the beach. the vendors are there to boost up the party.

The iconic view of Rio do Janeiro from Pao do Azucar. The rock is virtually inacessible without access given by the cable car.

Joao F. offered to guide me for an early morning hike to Morro Dois Irmaos, a steep stroll through the jungle to watch the sun rise over the city. The day at the office couldn’t start any better.

The sun light touches the first houses on the slope of these superb mountains.

Riding on the back of a motocycle up, and down, the steep streets of the Vidigal Favelas to reach the trailhead was really exciting. Camp do Vidigal is the local football pitch which I am sure draws the crowd during the games.

Praia do Arpoador is the birth place of surfing in Brazil, experienced and beginners mix and you can hear the many tips from the “pros” from the rocks of Pedra do Arpoador.

I have heard of large crowds gathering to dance the Samba all night long, but mor prominently are small groups simply getting together to play or share a meal and a conversation.

Day or night, players congeregate to play footvolley.

Vendors and cooks stroll the beach during all hours of the day.
