Slots Canyons

Flash floods carve stunning and winding passages into sandstone in the desert of the Southwest. These slot canyons offer endless photographic opportunities but more importantly a thrilling sense of adventure when exploring these narrow passages. The short obstacles encountered along the way sometime require skills and gear, so plan ahead.

Zebra Canyon, Grand Staircase Escalante, Utah.

Adventure

There are not many outdoor opportunities that bring as much joy and fun than exploring a narrow canyon, scrumbling over some pbstacles, and maybe at time the need for a rope and belay device for short rapelling. I always carry a 6.5mm 40m long rope, two harnesses, a belay device + carabiner, sling and nuts.

Photography

Low light in the canyon necessitates the use of advanced cameras with tripods or high ISO capabilities, although these days mobile phone cameras associates with advanced algorihtms can really achieve great results. I prefer using a relatively small camera with high end lenses (f/1.4) and high iso. I rarely have the patience to set up a tripod.
