John Ford immortalized Monument Valley in memorable western movies starting with Stagecoach in 1939, which then became the icon of the American West. The red vivid color of massive sandstones buttes are best admired in the early and late sun lights. The winter months are far less crowded, days are shorter and cooler but lack the occasional storms.
The view from Muley Point is not to be missed, despite the short off-road section, one of the best in the American Southwest. Enjoy the staggering Moki Dugway , graded dirt switchback road carved into the face of the cliff edge of Cedar Mesa, built by mining companies in search for uranium to reach Highway 163 which takes you to the Navajo Nation.
