Guadalupe Mountains, West Texas

Located at the border between Texas and New Mexico, the Guadalupe Mountains range includes the highest peak in Texas, El Capitan, with an elevation of 2,667m. Present day vertical relief is due to the “hard” limestone that makes most of the Guadalupe range. Limestone deposits were formed at the margin of a shallow sea during the Permian Period.
